Tiger Tourism in India

Tiger tourism in India is gaining in popularity because India is one of the few countries, if not the only country, where not only tigers are found but the tiger population is proliferating. Tiger sightings are primarily done in protected parks and wildlife sanctuaries. Although there are 42 tiger reserves in India, the best wildlife sanctuaries where tiger sightings are done are - Bandhavgarh (Madhya Pradesh), Pench (Maharashtra-Madhya Pradesh), Ranthambore (Rajasthan), Kanha (Odisha), Corbett (Uttarrakhand). The tour operators usually arrange a special package for a traveller interested in tiger sighting wherein the traveler is taken on a specific trail where chances to spot a tiger is maximum. Tigers can be seen in their natural habitat in India. Tourism co-exists with conservation of wildlife habitat in India. Hence India is home to about half of the world’s population of tigers of 3,200. Tiger Tourism in India is one of the prime interests for both foreign as well as Indian tourists. Tiger Safari can be done in two ways-on open jeeps or elephant back. These Safaris are conducted by experienced and trained staff. Tiger sightings can be done any time of the year and there are packages to suit everyone’s time and budget, some are 18-20 days long while other are shorter.
